How to Stop Continuous Line Drawing in Inventor

If you scroll down a couple of rows, you will find another "line" option which I believe is the one that your looking for.

A few things can make this easier to manage.

Rick click on the white area of the slide, click Grids and Guides and uncheck Snap objects to grid and Snap object to other objects, click ok

Select your line and hold down the CTRL key and move the scroll on the mouse to zoom in a lot.  You should now be able to more easily select the end point of the line and move to where you want without connecting to another object.

No, it cannot be turned off and all lines in 2007/2010 are connector lines. There is no non-connector line.

This is a real issue for users who need a high level of placement precision. Although the snap-to controls help, they still impeded proper placement and lines will still snap to connection points even with those tools disabled.

The only way I've overcome this is to create a line in a slide in v2003 and save it for later use or open an old 2003 prez that had a line. Then open that file in 2007 whenever you need the connector-less line. Copy that line into your 2007 slide and make other copies when you need them. They will remain connector-less in 2007/2010.

Mel, it is possible to draw lines that do not connect to other shapes in 2007 & 2010.  You can move the end points on any line so that they are not connected.  Zooming in helps alot.

I realize that. But try to land one just next to a connector point without it connecting. 'Can't be done.

That's the level of placement precision to which I assumed the user referred, because I've heard this complaint from so many users and they undoubtedly already discovered dropping the line away from a shape does not connect it. But once it's in proximity of a connection point and they don't want it snapped, connected, or moved, that's when the frustrations begin. The only true connector-less line is one imported from v2003.

I usually end up drawing lines with the freeform tool if I don't want connectors.

Put on Max zoom.  Draw the lines and put them in the proper location but make sure they extend beyond the point where you want to attach them.  Then, shorten the lines by right clicking and selecting "Size and Position."  This takes a bit of work but I have found if you then have to move the entire line (as opposed to one end) into the right position, the auto connect will not fire.
